Quit Smoking Program

Quitting smoking is the single most important thing you can do for your health!

The Quit Smoking Program (QSP) is a nurse-led clinic that provides you with one-on-one support during your attempt to quit. The program provides a non-judgmental and supportive environment where a “quit plan” is tailored to meet your individual needs. Anyone may self-refer to the program, or be referred by a healthcare provider. The cost is covered by OHIP.

What to Expect

We hold Information Sessions once a month where you can find out more about the Quit Smoking Program and what it offers. At this session, we will provide details about the methods available in the program that can help you quit smoking. In addition, you may have your nicotine dependence level evaluated, and we can also help you better understand your motivation to quit. Registration is required.

You can schedule a Quit Smoking Program appointment at the Information Session or call at a later date. At your first scheduled Quit Smoking Program appointment, you will meet one-on-one with a nurse to develop a personalized treatment plan, which may include the use of smoking cessation aids. Please note that we may invite you to do a simple breathing test to  measure your carbon monoxide levels at this meeting.

Ongoing support sessions are set up, as needed, to increase success with your quit attempt. You will be provided with the smoking cessation nurse’s contact information and are encouraged to call for support as often as you need to between scheduled appointments. Six months after quitting, you will also receive a phone call from the Quit Smoking Program office to ask how you are doing with your quitting plan.
